What’s the level of support for Scottish independence?

Consistent polling demonstrates that support for independence remains high – even more than support for the SNP.

Since the 2014 independence referendum many polls have shown majority support for independence. Polling expert John Curtice has described support for or against as evenly balanced.

But as Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar has said: “Mandates come from the electorate in an election. They don’t come from pollsters.”

And as the result of the 2021 election shows there is such a mandate for a referendum with analysis showing over 50% of people voted for independence parties.
