Why are so many other independent countries outperforming the UK?
In the UK, there is an increasing gap between the richest and the poorest in society and it is expected to get worse. But is nothing new – compared to our nearest neighbours in north west Europe it has been getting worse under both Labour and Tory governments for years.
The Scottish Government has released a series of impartially written papers which outline a prospectus for an independent Scotland. The papers look at a series of European comparator countries and shows they are wealthier than the UK, have lower levels of income inequality, lower rates of poverty, and most of these countries are happier than the UK.
When the cost of living crisis first hit our European neighbours took real action to tackle the cost of living crisis, whilst the UK Westminster government has continuously failed to act – it was the only major economy to put up taxes on working people during the cost of living crisis.
The facts clearly speak for themselves. Westminster is failing the people of Scotland compared to our more successful neighbours and only with independence can people in Scotland take control and make Scotland the wealthier, fairer and happier country it is more than capable of being.
